« Jardin Punk Challenge » : ne tondez plus votre gazon pour favoriser la biodiversité !
L’Université de Mons en Belgique vient de lancer le défi « Jardin Punk Challenge ». Elle invite les particuliers à ne plus tondre leur pelouse cet été pour favoriser la biodiversité.
Un beau jardin, c’est pour beaucoup un jardin bien propre et bien entretenu. Alors dès l’arrivée des beaux jours, tondeuses et autres machines sont de sortie. On coupe, on taille, on rase pour avoir un extérieur digne du château de Versailles. Mais voilà, cet entretien frénétique n’est pas sans conséquence : on élimine des fleurs et des plantes sauvages bénéfiques à de nombreux insectes, des refuges pour des animaux, etc.
En Belgique, un challenge a donc été lancé par l’Université de Mons (UMons) et le MUMONS (musée universitaire) : le « Jardin Punk Challenge ». « L’objectif est simple : lancer une rébellion dans votre jardin ! Fini la tonte ennuyeuse et les mauvaises herbes dont on cherche à tout prix à se débarrasser. On fait place désormais à une nature sauvage et rebelle pour favoriser la biodiversité », peut-on lire sur le site de l’université belge.
Laisser la tondeuse et observer
Chacun est donc invité à ne plus utiliser la tondeuse, à laisser pousser la flore et à observer « de semaine en semaine ce que devient son lopin de terre, ce qui y pousse naturellement, quelle faune s’y niche ». Cela peut être tout le jardin ou seulement un petit espace de son extérieur.
Le but de ce challenge est de favoriser la biodiversité mais aussi de montrer qu’un beau jardin n’est pas nécessairement un jardin entretenu. « On veut faire passer comme message qu’un jardin ce n’est pas seulement quelque chose de rectiligne où un robot automatique vient couper tout ce qui dépasse. Il y a aussi d’autres moyens d’entretenir son jardin qui prennent moins de temps », explique Baptiste Leroy, chef de travaux à l’UMons et l’un des initiateurs du projet, à la RTBF.
Le « Jardin Punk Challenge » est une chouette initiative. Les participants belges mais aussi français peuvent envoyer des images avant/après de leur jardin sur Facebook et Instagram avec le hashtag #JardinPunkChallenge, ou par mail à mumons@umons.ac.be. L’opération est ouverte jusqu’au 31 août 2020.
